Ingredients

Waffle Bake

  • 9 small Belgian waffles (homemade or store-bought)

  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk, at room temperature

  • 3 large eggs, at room temperate

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • Whipped cream and confectioner's sugar, for serving (optional)

Browned Butter Maple Syrup

  • 1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup or 12 Tablespoons) salted butter

  • 1 cup real maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon.

  2. Assemble the Waffles: Arrange a layer of waffles in the bottom of the pan and layer as needed to fit.

  3. Evenly pour the egg-mixture onto the waffles. Using a large spoon, gently press down on the waffles to encourage the waffles to soak up the egg-mixture.

  4. Refrigerate: Cover the dish with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Transfer to the fridge and refrigerator for at least 3 hours, or overnight.

  5. Bake: Once the waffles have been refrigerated, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly spray or butter a 9x13 baking dish. Once the oven has preheated, transfer the waffles to the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until waffles are lightly golden on top.

  6. Prepare the Browned Butter Maple Syrup: While the waffle casserole is baking, prepare the browned butter maple syrup. Add the butter to a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the butter begins to brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from the heat and transfer to a heatproof bowl. Add the cinnamon, maple syrup, and vanilla to the bowl and whisk until well-combined.

  7. Serve: Pour the browned butter maple syrup over the waffles. If desired, top with powdered sugar, whipped cream, chopped pecans, whatever you're craving! Enjoy!
